The Association successfully organised the 50th Anniversary All-Years Reunion in 2002 and the similar 60th Anniversary event in 2012.
Our next event will be in honour of the 75th Anniversary of the school's opening in 1952.
Fund-raising efforts related to the two multi-year reunions led to the establishment of a trust account with the Winnipeg Foundation.
With the interest generated from that fund, the Association grants four scholarships every year to graduates identified by school staff and Administration.
What will you be doing the weekend of Thanksgiving 2027?
That holiday falls on Monday, the 11th of October in 2027. The Executive of the Alumni Association has pencilled in that weekend as the time we would aim to hold events related to the school's 75th Anniversary.
Of course the Association wants to put on an event that will allow former classmates to reconnect and catch up.
We also want to let everyone understand how the school has evolved through the years to become a thriving community of more than 1300 students in grades 9 through 12, in multiple streams, with a large staff of over 100 people.
The 2027 event would be another "all years" reunion. We would look to have events on the days of and leading up to that long weekend, i.e., the 7th or 8th or 9th to the 10th, to afford as many people as possible an opportunity to travel to be in attendance.
Plans are seminal at this time, but our resources would most likely limit the event to the school with no big dinner or dance.
For those who cannot attend in person, we are considering the possibility of providing a virtual 3D tour and a livestream feed... But that will require more detailed planning closer to the event itself, so stay tuned!.
We are looking for volunteers to step up to help make contact with as many people as possible...
"year captains" if you will; people who would be spreading the word among the people in their graduating class... and... BEYOND!
More than that, though, with this event, the Association is looking to "give back" to our alma mater and raise funds to donate to the school for the purchase and installation of a new reader board. The one in place today is inoperative.
The cost of the new sign is not insignificant. As a result, the Association is setting itself a "stretch" goal of raising $100,000 for this purpose, with any excess funds to be added to the existing trust fund for use in funding future scholarships.
Of note is the fact that this is roughly the same amount donated by alumni over the two previous gatherings of this kind, so we consider the goal to be achievable.
